This is a double-flowered arrowhead variety, with slender, bright-green, arrow-shaped leaves, and pure white fluffy pom-pom flowers. It is different to the native British arrowhead - in addition to the double blooms, it has a larger tuber, is up sooner in spring, and has leaves that are more defined and angular. Like the native arrowhead, it grows each year from a tuber (the 'potato', see picture), appearing above the soil as a green spike in April - May, and then growing fast, to flower in mid to late summer. After flowering, the plant dies back. Underground, each plant is making two or three tubers for the following year. Sometimes these will escape from the pot, coming up next spring somewhere else in the pond, but in our experience this isn't common. It will overwinter as these round tubers, with a growing spike, but without leaves or roots, from autumn until the following spring.

Please note: If you have purchased the plant from us during the time from autumn to spring you will have essentially got a pot of loose soil with tubers buried in it. We would usually recommend that you leave it in the pot it came in until you see leaves and roots in late spring, and then pot it on or plant it out at that time, as it will be easier to handle. But if you do want to plant it up immediately, then carefully empty the soil out of the pot and find the tubers, then plant them in the place of your choice with the growing spike pointing upwards and about half an inch of soil over its top.

If designing a planting scheme, we recommend approximately 3 Sagittaria sagittifolia var. leucopetala 'Flore Pleno' plants per square foot of ground, or 2 plants per linear foot of pond edge. Read more here on how to pot and care for your plant.
