This is a very rare Caltha variety which produces masses of pompom-like double yellow flowers in spring/early summer, and mounds of shiny green heart-shaped leaves. It should not be confused with the common double marsh marigold, Caltha palustris 'Flore Pleno': Caltha palustris var. palustris 'Plena' has larger, more fluffy blooms, on longer stems, which are a slightly paler lemon yellow. It also flowers several weeks later than the common marsh marigolds: it is still blooming well into June. Therefore, when combined with another marigold such as Caltha palustris 'Flore Pleno', it is particularly useful for extending the flowering period of your pond.
If designing a planting scheme, we recommend approximately 2 Caltha palustris var. palustris 'Plena' plants per square foot of ground, or 1 plant per linear foot of pond edge. Read more here on how to pot and care for your plant.
