This lovely British native plant produces velvety wine-red flowers with five petals in summer. These flowers are very attractive to bees and hoverflies. (It is on the RHS 'Perfect For Pollinators' list, and the blooms attract at least four separate types of bumblebee here at the nursery). It has green, deeply-divided leaves on elongated, reddish, slightly woody, stems that grow outwards almost horizontally, which give it its common name of 'Bog Strawberry'. It then sends up taller, straight stems as it flowers. Unlike a real strawberry though, Potentilla palustris is a slow-growing plant, and suitable for smaller ponds. Also known as Comarum palustre.
