Acorus gramineus 'Ogon' has striking bright yellow and green leaves that fan out from the centre to form a nice compact plant, with the additional bonus of being evergreen. It is suitable for smaller pools and tubs as it is clump-forming and does not run. While it will grow perfectly well in an exposed site, it will look best in a sheltered location. This is because in an exposed site the leaves often get cosmetic damage from wind scorch and frost, and being a slow-growing evergreen, it doesn't replace damaged leaves quickly. Sheltered sites are of course often also shady, and luckily the plant tolerates this very well, making it one of the few marginals that is good for brightening up shady ponds.
If designing a planting scheme, we recommend approximately 4 Acorus gramineus 'Ogon' plants per square foot of ground, or 2 plants per linear foot of pond edge. Read more here on how to pot and care for your plant.
