'Barbara Dobbins' is a lovely modern waterlily from America. Flowers range from yellow, flushed with pink, to an exquisite shade of peach (the exact colour depends on the maturity of the individual plant, and the weather). The blooms are large, often 20cm or 8 inches across, and are held high above the foliage - up to a foot above in good weather - like those of a tropical waterlily, giving the pond a really exotic look. It is extremely free-flowering, and also has a very long flowering season. Even the leaves are attractive, with purple blotches on a green background, and the plant remains evergreen in all but the coldest weather.
