This is something genuinely unique and rather special. We selected this striking red-stemmed form from a batch of standard Orontium aquaticum (Golden Club) seedlings grown at our nursery some years ago. The vivid stem colour has proved to be stable over time, and is something we have never encountered before in this species. The leaves are also distinctive, being a deeper, richer green than usual and forming a beautiful contrast with the stems. In addition, this form retains more of its foliage through winter than typical Orontium aquaticum.
The best colour develops in full sun, and planting in shallow water shows it to best effect. As with the species, it is clump-forming and very slow-growing.
If designing a planting scheme, we recommend approximately 2 Orontium aquaticum plants per square foot of ground, or 1 plant per linear foot of pond edge. Read more on how to pot and care for your plant.
