Native species. This beautiful and striking British plant has very slender leaves which are green with a reddish base. It produces umbels of rose-pink flowers on very tall stems in summer and is very easy to grow. Butomus umbellatus attracts bees and is on the RHS’ Plants for Pollinators list. Gardeners have also developed a darker and a lighter cultivar of this species.

Butomus plants like plenty of room for their roots to spread as they grow, so we would suggest starting your plant off in a pot of at least 2 litres capacity.

If designing a planting scheme, we recommend approximately 2 Butomus umbellatus plants per square foot of ground, or 1 plant per linear foot of pond edge. Read more here on how to pot and care for your plant.
